This article is for in-house corporate coaches. Here’s how your can help you managers and their team before more efficient and effective in the workplace.
1. Communication skills. I recommend that you help every manager in your organization improve their communication skills. It’s a must that they know how to communicate with different people to create harmonious relationship in the workplace. You can offer them with training programs, seminars, or you can send them informative emails.
2. Identify the coaching opportunities. Make it a habit to watch your managers in action to know what skills they lack and what things they need to improve on so they’ll become better leaders. It would also help if you can send survey to their subordinates to get a clear picture of their performance. By doing this, you’ll easily be able to figure out what assistance and information you can offer these people to help them out.
3. One-on-one coaching. Make sure that you address certain behavior or performance issues behind closed doors. Start the meeting by praising your managers for the good things that they have done. Make sure that you cite their specific contribution and sincerely appreciate them. Then, tell them the things that they need to improve on without sounding judgmental. Offer them an action plan that they can easily follow.
4. Follow-up. It is not enough that you give these people feedback and ask them to do something for their own improvement. To make sure that your coaching programs are fruitful, make follow-ups at least once a month. This is to make sure that your trainees have corrected the issues otherwise, you’ll need to give them another set of coaching sessions.
